Always wondered what Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is, and how it works? Here is the hype behind hypnotherapy:
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) is a combination of talk therapy, and hypnotherapy which also incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Neuro Linguistic Therapy (NLP). It is based on solutions being found and long-term desired change happening by focusing on the future, goals and the positives of situations.
How did Solution Focused Hypnotherapy develop?
SFH stems from Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) which is a short-term, goal-orientated therapy. By asking certain questions, it supports you in realising your deepest hopes and working towards making them your reality. It was developed by Insoo Kim Berg and Steve de Shazer. Focusing on positive aspects of life lead clients to breakthroughs in a short space of time. It was proven effective therapy didn’t have to revert to the past.
What happens during a session and how is it structured?
During SFH, the client and practitioner reflect on what in life is going well, followed by identifying future goals or outcomes that are broken down into bite sized pieces.
After identifying steps forward, in this positive state of mind, the client is then guided into a relaxation known as ‘trance’.
What happens during trance?
During trance, the brain searches for solutions and ideas, whilst deepening the focus on the desired outcome. This happens whilst the brain is emitting theta band waves.
Theta is known for being the frequency of consciousness related to creativity and intuition, as well as common in REM sleep. Theta is known as the realm of the subconscious
In this state, the mind is calm and able to process information more easily, whilst cable of coming to solutions, ideas and thoughts that enable you to consciously create your reality and mentally expand.
Whilst in trance, the brain is more susceptible to suggestion on a subconscious level. This give opportunity to “reprogram” the mind, when it is open to allowing new patterns in thinking and suggested desired behaviours. This enables the client to create the changes they long for and transformation. We are what we think, after all!
